What Inspired the Name Alora?

We've always been inspired by the idea of self love and breaking down barriers that prevent women from achieving their dreams. It's with this mission in mind that Emilyn, Jameela & Peter took the name Alora from Bantu {one of the oldest Central African languages} which translates into "my dream". The name, represents a positive transformation of character and inspiration for the wearer to embrace their uniqueness and achieve their dreams.

Alora was officially founded in 2013, but started as a hobby in 2009.

Where is Alora Based?

Alora is based in Calgary, Canada. We source jewelry and materials from around the world in addition to making select pieces and custom orders from our home studio in Calgary, Canada.

What work do you do in Canada?

We work with local charities such as the Mustard Seed, YWCA, and the Louise Dean Centre. Throughout the year, portions of our sales are donated to initiatives that prevent family violence, reduce poverty and increase self-confidence among women and children.

What work do you do in Ghana?

A lot of the materials we use in our Alora branded handmade jewelry (like the recycled glass beads) are from Ghana. Our artisans get paid a fair wage for their work.

What is the idea behind Alora Jewelry?

We believe that the best way to make things happen or achieve anything meaningful in life is by setting an intention that is why many Alora pieces come with a meaning card.  Here is how it works:

  • Select an intention for yourself or for someone that you believe needs it
  • Wear your jewelry as a reminder of that intention
  • Turn your intention/dream into a reality and share your story with us to be featured in our make dreams come true section. Use the hashtag #AloraTribe

What materials does Alora work with?

Alora jewelry is handcrafted using materials like brass, silver, recycled glass and recycled brass, semi-precious gemstones, and resin. For custom pieces, we also work with gold and precious gemstones like sapphire. 

Please note: We do our best to ensure that our chain is lead and nickel free. If you have an allergy to certain types of metals, Alora Jewelry is not for you. If you are not sure if you have an allergy, please consult your doctor before wearing any kind of jewelry. 

Where do you get the recycled glass used in your designs?

The recycled glass beads we use are made in Ghana.

What is Brass?

Brass is an alloy consisting primarily of copper and zinc. Because brass composition can vary, slight discrepancies in color may occur. To prevent discoloration, avoid exposing brass jewelry to moisture or chemicals and polish sparingly.

Many people are not sensitive to any of the properties of brass. It is a great metal to wear and work with! We want to mention that if you have an allergy to any metal our jewelry is not for you. We are happy to address any questions you have, if you leave us a message :) 

Are the products pictured online to size?

Due to discrepancies between computer monitor sizes, it is difficult to show the actual size of a product on the web. Because of this, Alora provides detailed measurements and descriptions of our jewelry on every product page.

Please note that due to the handmade nature of each piece, jewelry may vary slightly in size. All measurements are a near approximation.

ORDERING AND SHIPPING

How can I search for a particular item on the Alora website?

Our website features a variety of filters to help you find exactly what you are looking for. Type a keyword or name into the search bar or shop by collection, meaning or imagery.

How To Buy

Shopping at Alora is easy

  • On the homepage, browse our many categories of jewelry and accessories to find the perfect item.
  • Visit a product page to view high-resolution images, prices, and under the (+) tabs, jewelry details and dimensions. Here you can like, share, and email products to a friend.
  • Select an item and add it to your shopping cart. Then choose to continue shopping, edit your cart, or process your order.
  • If you would like to process your order you can do so by registering or by checking out as a guest.
  • Enter your contact information and shipping address.
  • Select a shipping method.
  • Select a payment method: Visa, MasterCard or Paypal and enter your billing address.
  • Confirm your order.

Once you have confirmed your order and your transaction is complete, we will email you an order confirmation email.

If I don’t want to share my personal or payment information online, can I still make a purchase?

Yes. Alora is committed to fulfilling all purchasing requests. In addition purchasing products through our online store and at event we attend, customers can place orders via direct email with the subject header ‘EMAIL PURCHASE’.

How much does shipping cost

How can I be sure that my Alora order has been processed?

Orders placed Monday through Friday will ship within 3-5 business days of purchase. Once an order has been placed, we will send you an order confirmation email listing your order number (ex. #0000) and details about your transaction. Retain this email as your proof of purchase receipt. Should you not receive an order confirmation email within 2 business days of purchase, please email customer service and we will be happy to assist you.

While we will do all we can to ensure your order is delivered on time. Alora cannot be held responsible for conditions beyond our control such as loss of shipping by courier service, severe weather, service interruptions, etc.

If you would like to add a tracking number to your order, select tracking option in your shipping option.

Can I email an Alora product to a friend?

Yes. If you find an item that you think would be perfect for a friend or if you need a second opinion on a purchase, you can easily share it by selecting the email icon on any product page.

Can I add additional products to an existing order?

Once an order has been placed, Alora is unable to add items to an existing order. If you would like to purchase an additional item, please place a separate order through our online store and we will be sure to ship it with your first order!

As Alora strives to reduce the shipping and environmental costs of packaging and shipping, providing adequate notice, Alora may combine and ship together consecutive orders listed with the same shipping address. To request combined shipping, or for any other ordering enquiries, please email customer service.

Can I cancel an order once it has been placed?

Once an order has been placed, we are unable to cancel the order.

If you have any concerns about an existing order, please fill out our contact form and provide your order number for reference.

Which countries does Alora ship to?

Orders placed through the Alora website are available to ship across all seven continents.

Is the full Alora collection available for purchase online?

Our website offers a curated collection of our newest and most popular designs. If our online store does not currently feature an item or style you are looking for we may have it available at one of our retailers. To find out about additional products, styles, or sizes, or for a listing of retailers near you, please contact us.

How do I know what chain length to order?

Alora offers a wide selection of chain gauges and lengths.To find the perfect chain for you or for any chain sizing inquiries, visit our Size Guide.

 

RETURNS AND EXCHANGES

Can I return or exchange a product I bought from the Alora website?

We do not offer returns on Alora products purchased from the Alora website. You have up to 30 days after purchase to exchange your Alora product. For a full review of return and exchange policy, please visit returns and exchanges.
